Assessing Refractive Error Among Students at Sumandeep Vidyapeeth

Abstract

Purpose: To determine the prevalence of refractive error among students of Suman deep vidyapeeth. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, we had randomly chosen students from first to the final year to know prevalence of refractory error, factors responsible for increasing incidence of refractive error and its correlation with daily activities. Examination included visual acquity, asking question regarding contact lens usage and eye hygiene, vitamin A intake. Results: In our study of 100 medical students, we found out that currently 63% students are having aided vision and 37% people are having unaided vision. Out of 63% of students who are having aided vision, 95.5% use spectacles and remaining 4.5% use contact lens. Among the students who are having aided vision most complication faced by them was headache. And among those who are using contact lens common complication was of bacterial conjunctivitis. Conclusion: More than half of students in sumandeep Vidyapeeth had refractive error. And most of them are using spectacles.
